Why We Started Farm Plan

The idea of starting Farm Plan began in the deepest recesses of Peter Flannery's mind.  Overtime it slowly fought its way through the clutter and discarded dreams of scoring tries for the All Blacks and making centuries and taking hat tricks for the Black Caps. In mid 2010 it finally arrived, firmly locking itself at the front of Peter's mind.  

Peter arrived home from work one evening and boldly declared to his wife Margaret "I think I should resign from the Bank, and we should start our own Company!"

Once Margaret lifted herself off the floor and realigned her jaw, they sat down and discussed the prospect of starting their own Company, and so Farm Plan was born. They completed their own business plan, did some market research, sought advice from Bank peers, senior management and clients. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and so Farm Plan Ltd was finally incorporated on the 24th of June 2010.

Peter and Margaret Flannery had identified a need to help farming businesses improve their business management and governance skills. The initial services offered were Business Planning and Financial Management. However over the first 12 months it evolved due to requests from clients, and Farm Plan now offer the four services of:

1. Business Planning
2. Financial Management
3. Family Succession Planning
4. Equity Partnership Facilitation

Farm Plan remains a niche Company, with Peter Flannery handling the face to face meetings with clients, and Margaret fulfilling the administrative roles within the Company.We see ourselves as offering an elite and niche service. We wish to maintain a small and targeted customer base within the lower South Island. Throughout our previous careers we have always been focused on delivering high quality service, and we bring the same values to our own Company.

Our purpose statement is to help people and their businesses succeed. This is all about helping you get the best out of your Business. 4. Our methodology is we coach rather than tell. People are usually more convinced by reasons they discovered themselves than by those found by others. 5. We all get busy doing what we are doing and sometimes we lose clarity. We bring a disciplined approach to monitoring and reviewing of the plan, to the point that it should eventually become habitual. The benefit to you is that you retain focus on what is important to you thereby enhancing the success of your Business.
6. By regularly stopping what you are doing, sitting down and talking about it with your Business partners, you end up with a shared vision and agreed plan. The benefit to you is that you are all moving in the same direction in pursuit of a common goal.
